THE 40TH ANNUAL BUMBERSHOOT: SEATTLE’S MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL

THE 40TH ANNUAL BUMBERSHOOT®: SEATTLE’S MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2010

Seattle, WA – Bumbershoot: Seattle’s Music & Arts Festival this year is celebrating the 40th annual Festival, and to commemorate the milestone, Trophy Cupcakes has created some amazing and unique cupcakes depicting highlights of Bumbershoot poster art featured in the retrospective exhibition, Umbrella for the Arts: 40 Years of Bumbershoot Artwork. On display at Seattle City Hall through September 7, 2010, this exhibition features 40 years of Bumbershoot posters and original artworks created specifically for the Festival. The limited edition cupcakes will be available at Trophy Cupcakes stores, on a first-come, first-served basis, starting Thursday, July 22 through the end of the festival.

The Bumbershoot cupcakes will retail for $3.50 each with 100% of the proceeds generously going to benefit Bumbershoot’s Send a Kid program. Established by One Reel in 2004 and founded on the core belief that all kids benefit from experiencing art and music, this program helps send under-served youth from our community to Bumbershoot with an accompanying adult.

The Bumbershoot cupcakes feature designs by some of the artists in the exhibition Umbrella for the Arts including Claes Oldenburg, Jacob Lawrence, Joe Max Emminger, Barbara Earl Thomas, Faye Jones, Ginny Ruffner, Cheryl dos Remédios and Dawn Cerny. These are just some of the amazing artists whose work has defined Bumbershoot’s look over the past four decades. Umbrella for the Arts is open to the public through September 7 from 9AM to 6PM in the City Hall Lobby Gallery and Anne Focke Gallery at 600 Fourth Avenue. Admission is free.

“We were really honored when One Reel approached us to participate in their 40 Ways to Celebrate Bumbershoot’s 40th Festival summer-long series of events and activities” noted Trophy Cupcakes Proprietor Michael Williamson. “Having played Bumbershoot many times over the years with my band Sage, it’s great to have a new opportunity to participate in the Festival. Combining the work of these great designers with our cupcakes is a sweet way to celebrate one of the most well-known arts festivals of our generation.”

The Bumbershoot cupcakes will also be available at additional 40 Ways to Celebrate Bumbershoot’s 40th Festival events including the Birthday Happy Hour at the Pan Pacific Hotel on Friday, August 13 from 4 to 6pm. It wouldn’t be a birthday party without some kind of cake, right?
